Knowledge Base: How do I import subscribers to be Inactive?
There are situations when you have information on subscribers that you need to update in Newsberry, and sometimes that is their Active or Inactive status. Maybe they have emailed you separately requesting to be off your mailing list, or maybe you pulled them from a different system and you know they are from a Do Not Email list. Newsberry allows you to import these subscribers to automatically be placed into the Inactive status.
Here's How...
The first step is to make some changes in your .csv or .xls file. You will need to create two new columns. The first should be labeled subscriber status and the second labeled reason.
Next, you will need to fill in the fields for your subscribers. If you want a particular subscriber to be Active, simply put active in the subscriber status field. If you want them to be Inactive, enter inactive in the field. If you have labeled a subscriber Inactive, you should also include an inactive reason. The options are:
- Unsubscribe
- Manually Deactivate
- Spam Complaint
Providing a reason will group those subscribers so you will always have a record of why they became Inactive.
One very important thing to note:
Make sure you enter the Subscriber Status and Reason exactly as it is shown above (you cannot misspell it) so that Newsberry recognizes the field.
The next step is to import the file into Newsberry. Follow the usual steps for importing a list. Once you get to point of selecting the fields you've imported, you will see that the two new fields you've created (subscriber status and reason) have been recognized by Newsberry. This is why it is important to enter the fields exactly as shown above, so Newsberry will be able to identify them. Do not change these field names, only select the remaining fields you are importing and click Continue.
Once the file is imported (this may take some time depending on how large your list is), those that you have marked as Inactive will be placed automatically in the Inactive tab. Now you will not be sending any future campaigns to those subscriber, unless they resubscribe later.
Now you are ready to send a campaign, without worrying about emailing subscribers who don't want your emails.
