Knowledge Base: How can I add fields to segment my subscribers?
There are situations where you need to segment your subscribers but you don't have the data already to do it. Creating a sublist based on zip codes is easy if you have the zip codes already. In this article, we'll show you how to create subscriber segmentation with new subscriber information.
We'll start with an example: You have a list of subscribers that have opted-out of your next campaign. Maybe they already purchased the product you are promoting, and you don't want to annoy them with a new email. Start with your existing subscriber list.

In order to create any sublist, Newsberry needs a field and corresponding data in that field so it can fulfill some rule. So, in this example we will need to create a new field that we will call Current Campaign. Now, next to those subscribers that should not receive the next mailing, we will mark them with a No.

Now you will import this file into Newsberry. It's ok if these subscribers are already in your subscriber list, Newsberry will update them with the new field.
During the import process, Newberry will ask you to assign the different fields you are importing. Here, you will create the new field called Current Campaign.

Once you have completed this import, you can now create a sublist for your next campaign. Use the same steps shown in this help article for creating a sublist, setting the rule as follows.

This tactic can be applied to many situations. The idea is that you can manipulate your subscriber data yourself for segmentation, and Newsberry will update the subscribers with how you tell it to.
Please Note:
You can give fields a default value. In this same situation, you
may want to assign everyone a yes to the Current
Campaign field, unless otherwise specified. This will allow
you to create a sublist: Current Campaign contains "Yes".
Newsberry will always update your subscribers at each import. Make
sure you are importing a file that contains the most up to date
subscriber data so you don't make changes you didn't want to. An
easy way to make sure is to import a file with only the email
address and any fields you want to update. This way, Newsberry
won't update existing fields.
