What is a Dedicated IP address

Overview

If you are on a monthly plan with at more than 10,000 subscribers, we will provide you with a dedicated IP address at no extra charge. This means you have your own IP address from which you are sending your campaigns. You are not on a shared IP address with any other Newsberry customer and only your mailing practices affect your delivery.

Why is this a good thing?

Using an email marketing system often means that you will be sharing IP addresses with other customers. For the majority of small to medium size senders (under 10,000 subscribers) this is the ideal situation because on their own, these size customers are unable to create a solid reputation with various ISPs (AOL, Hotmail, etc).

When you are a large sender, you are able to send enough traffic to the ISP that they recognize you and can build a reputation for you. In this situation, sending on your own, away from other customers, is ideal since you can control all of your delivery. When you send a campaign through a dedicated IP, your email practices are the only factor that affect delivery. No longer will you have to wonder if some other company with less-than perfect practices ruins how AOL accepts your emails.

Why can't I have a dedicated IP if I have less than 10,000 subscribers?

We have determined that any lists less than 10,000 subscribers will not be able to create a successful reputation with ISPs. Without enough volume, these ISPs may bulk or block your emails since they do not recognize you as a large enough sender. Many of the larger ISPs build this repuation on the IP address, but if they don't see enough activity, they will not have enough data to come to a positive result with you.

If you feel like your situation is different, and you can send enough volume with a smaller group of subscribers, please contact us. We'd be happy to evaluate your specific situation to see if a dedicated IP would work for you.
