Managing Subscriptions

Hi -

I'm finally getting back to setting up my first campaign (nothing like needing to announce a workshop, asap, to force you to get to work!), but I'm having some trouble understanding how the subscriptions and sub groups work. Perhaps it would work best if I said what it is that I would like to be able to do?

Within Manage Subscriptions, I would like to be able to hand-select sub-groups, but from what I can tell, my only options for this are non-manual. I have clients of different types and there is nothing about their name or email address that would tell me what client should be part of what sub-group. It looked like I might be able to add a field to the clients so that I can give them one or more sub-group identifiers - but then the field documentation said that this would be visible to the client, which wouldn't be cool.

I would like the manage subscriptions page to show me the name of the client for me to determine who to deactivate. Right now, I have to have two screens up, simultaneously, one that shows name & email and one that shows email and the deactivate button. Would be really nice to be able to see the name and be able to deactivate from the same screen. (Actually, it would be really cool to be able to have buttons next to the deactivate button that lets me plunk them into a subgroup I define). Anyway, the point is that I don't know people's email addresses and therefore cannot identify them by that.

I would also like to be able to permanently delete, instead of just inactivate.

And in reality, I don't want to really deactivate them, I really want to hand select who gets the campaign. I've always told my people that I don't blanket email to everyone, but that I personally consider who might want to receive the particular email I'm sending. I don't like junk mail, so I don't want to do that to my clients. I guess this is just a clarification of the two subjects, above.

    Hi Paula,

The best way to separate your subscribers is through sublists. If you create custom fields for your subscribers, there is no way for them to see it unless you are showing those fields in a Signup form. So, if there is a distinguishing factor that they have, you can separate them. I'm adding a few help articles that give some ideas and instructions on how to do this.

With regards to being able to see the Name and Email Address, this is a good idea. I'll discuss with the team to maybe add it to the Show All Fields section. Most customers don't separate their subscribers on a one-by-one basis since lists get pretty big, but I could see allowing to deactivate a subscriber from Show All Fields.

There is no way to permanently delete a subscriber. This is done to ensure that there is always a record of your subscriber and that if they Unsubscribed or Clicked Spam, you would never accidentally re-activate them by deleting and then importing.

Let me know if I can clarify further or answer any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Natalie
