test emails are not being delivered

I am trying to send a test message to two email addresses and the recipients do not receive the emails.
They are both bellsouth.net addresses.
What could be causing this problem?
Please help, they feel if they can't get the test, the when we send to the list, they question how many other people are not getting the emails as well.
